CAUTION!
Trapster 4.0.2 does not work on Nokia N8 Belle..
But Trapster 3.6.2 running on Nokia N8 Belle..
I think Ovi Store problem.

US senators complain that Trapster gives "drunk drivers a free tool to evade checkpoints, putting innocent families and children at risk." Question. If you were drunk, would you be able to open an app on your phone and comprehend things like speed traps? Seem more like Trapster is "giving cops a hard time collecting their bs taxes."

App does not work reliable in background when running google nav in foreground on my LG Optimus Speed 2x. No audible warnings. After reopening app in foreground everything is fine again. I had no problems with prior versions before 3.1.0. Currently this is a major drawback for me that makes this version unusable for my need. Hopefully this is fixed soon.

You gotta wonder what people are thinking about when they drive.

I've been driving (a lot) for 42 years. I've driven for a living, I've commuted, I've driven in big cities, I've driven up and down the coast between Canada and Mexico many times and I have never been stopped for speeding (never used a radar detector), never "accidentally" driven through a red light, never had any kind of traffic citation other than some overdue parking meters. If people put a little more care and attention into their driving, these kinds of sites wouldn't be necessary.

That simply is not true. At least not in Northern Virgina. There are many new speed cameras and red light running cameras set up recently in Arlington,Va. These are much smaller than previous versions. We just witnessed several cars getting their pictures taken at several intersections in Ballston. PG

I love this app. Law enforcement are typically the kids we picked on in high school and there badge lets them get even with the world for them being pathetic. Everyone don't forget to flash you lights to on coming traffic when you spot a pig. They don't care to destroy our jobs or driving record so we need to stick together to prevent them from having easy speed traps...

Hi Peter,
further to my initial reply below, I looked at some of the videos and I think the problem might be their age. Yes, I also have only 7 icons, unlike the video (http://vimeo.com/12777837I - suspect it's the one you're referring to) which shows 9 icons, including "Patrol".
Maybe that's how it looked when the "4" first arrived but many changes have occurred and, long story short, to "toggle" Patrol on/off go to "Settings" tab (2nd one look like gears), then Display, scroll down to second pane group which should read "Traffic", then "Patrol", where you can select your requirement. I suspect this control the entire function, i.e. no blue line show on your display and you don't leave a trail? Experiment.
Oh, BTW, looking at some of the other posts here reminded me of the Caravan function (third tab, looks like a torso) which also enables interaction with other Trapster users....

In my experience there's nothing to do, the blue lines just appear when there's been a recent drive-by of a Trapster user with the app activated. Bit like a smoke trail. It seems to linger for a while but I can't say I've taken notice of how long. So as you drive along using Trapster, you'd be laying down a blue trail for other users to see. This is a way of building confidence that others are "out there", as simply seeing "open road" ahead on Trapster is no guarantee there's not a "Gremlin" ahead that hasn't been reported (because no Trapster user has travelled past it and reported.) I'm not sure which video you're referring to, perhaps posting a link here would be helpful, I must admit I've not viewed all of them and certainly haven't come across one with a "Patrol" Icon.....

The TRAPSTER instruction videos speak of a Patrol function that shows a Blue Line to indicate the paths of recent Trapster Users. A Patrol Icon is also shown on the RHS of the screen in the video.
I have 7 icons on my Apple Iphone 4S screen, but no Patrol Icon, and no Blue Line on the Iphone screen either.

I guess that I have overlooked something, but what? Can anybody help?

When I say "close", it continue to work on background and I have undesirble alerts when at home with friends and so on ?

New version 4.5 is slow to refresh maps. Crashes sometimes and just a little sluggish in general. I'm a moderator and I like the previous version of Trapster better. New version has cool features but not nearly as fast to load as when you guys used google maps.
